The future of GEWISS will be expressed in continuity with the values ??that led to the birth and development of the company.

Since its inception, GEWISS has kept faith with a very specific principle: to innovate. This choice has led the company to experience something better every day than the previous day, always looking beyond. Competence, determination and passion these are the qualities that have ensured the constant development of the company, products and markets. A path that has allowed GEWISS to establish itself internationally as an economic and social reference reality.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary, the time has come a fundamental step for the company which has been announced since Cav. Lav. Domenico Bosatelli in the message sent to all Group employees, reproduced in full below.

?I extend an affectionate greeting to everyone, from corporate governance to managers, staff, collaborators, customers and suppliers. A necessary reminder also to those who have experienced the Gewiss reality and who for various reasons are no longer with us. I am truly sorry not to be able to shake your hand personally due to the situation that afflicts us and which we all hope will be resolved as soon as possible “.

?50 years. GEWISS was born with the advent of plastics in 1970 and allowed me to vent my creative marketing instinct aimed at meet the needs and expectations of the market directing the development of products from design to industrialization, marketing and related logistics with a vision of perspective “.

?I have always worked with determination with the pleasure of suffering for the search for solutions and rejoice in the results obtained. These were years of intense activity and strong emotions made possible thanks to Collaborators who shared the development of ideas with me. We have developed over 20,000 catalog items of which 1,200 are patented. Products that have achieved great international success and that for this reason have often been cloned by the competition “.

?Today over 50% of the electrical system components are represented by Gewiss products. Our design and our industrial technologies and above all the skills of our technicians are the guarantee of continuity of development. We are currently facing the new frontier of plant engineering beyond home automation with the GSM digital system (Global system model). This new digital plant is being installed in the new and innovative Chorus Life real estate project which is an applied research laboratory for GEWISS ?.

“The corporate and social values ??on which GEWISS is founded are based on the concept of:
– Doing business for the benefit of Collaborators, Shareholders and the State.
– Development as a constant of management.
– Doing everything at all times to the fullest.

This philosophy, widely shared by the current Governance and by the Collaborators, is the guarantee for the future business development “.

?When I started my industrial career with GEWISS, I never imagined reaching the threshold of my 90 years still being at the helm.
But now the time has come to relinquish the command appointing my son Fabio as President who has supported me for over thirty years sharing principles, values, objectives and working methodology and who, thanks to his merits and excellent relationships with Management and Collaborators, will know ensure a future of development and success for our company.
I want to renew my thanks for your attention to all of you connected by remembering the great affection I have for you all and I wish you and your loved ones all the best for the future ?.

To pick up the baton, giving continuity to the values ??and entrepreneurial spirit of the company, will be Fabio BOSATELLI that you can count on Paolo CERVINI, CEO and CEO of GEWISS, and on the team of managers that make up the company’s leadership, supported by the more than 1,500 employees of the Group, in six countries around the world.

Aerial view of the Gewiss factories

?I grew up with Gewiss“, Comments Fabio BOSATELLI,”I have been working there for over 30 years and more I fully share the entrepreneurial principles, ethics, values ??and working method devoted to innovation and excellence. I welcome this important assignment with pride, a sense of responsibility and with the firm will to give continuity to our company. I am happy to be able to tackle this challenging journey relying on a united group of collaborators who I really appreciate for the determination shown even in these difficult months, working with tenacity and professionalism. I want to be the first supporter of the evolution of Gewiss: we are thinking of a company that will be more and more managerial, international, digital and sustainable. These goals will be achievable thanks to everyone’s positivity and proactivity: the energy, enthusiasm, conviction and passion of the entire GEWISS team will be fundamental in the coming months and years to come, to achieve the most ambitious goals together.?.

The commitment to the development of the GEWISS Group was met with equal determination by Paolo Cervini, CEO and CEO of GEWISS. ?A little over a year ago“, has explained, “I am part of the GEWISS Group and I can say that what we are experiencing today is the confirmation of a path, aimed at giving continuity and guaranteeing the evolution of GEWISS. We have started a project that is based on the fundamental pillars of the company and translates into a managerial path to become more international, digital and sustainable. I want to thank the Cavaliere del Lavoro Domenico Bosatelli, and Fabio Bosatelli for the trust placed in me and I confirm my total dedication, passion, determination in carrying out the project we started together?.

Sitting on the benches of a shaded courtyard of a building, sheltered from the main shopping streets of Grodno, groups of migrants stare at their cell phones while waiting for the signal to leave. Away, five men, traveling companions for a few days, say they come from Rakka and Deraa, in Syria. One of them speaks a few words of English and explains having heard of Belarus “On social networks”. Khaldoun, as he calls himself, says he took a plane from Beirut at the end of September before arriving in Minsk, the Belarusian capital, where he received a tourist visa authorizing him to stay in the country for thirty days. Barely arrived, he took the road to Grodno, still guided by Telegram or Snapchat.

Grodno is a peaceful city of 350,000 inhabitants crossed by the Niemen, less oppressive, less disfigured by the omnipresence of the red and green national flag imposed on every street corner of Minsk by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko. But in recent months, the Belarusian city has above all become known as the last stage to reach, the last obstacle to overcome before setting foot on Poland, located less than 15 kilometers away. Khaldoun is looking for a crossing point to reach his objective, the European Union. If he does not succeed, “It will be Lithuania”, explains this dry 50-year-old man. ?We will not go back to Syria. There is war. “

He and the others, Syrians, Iraqis or Yemenis, come to try their luck on this new migratory route, opened with the blessing, if not the complicity, of the authorities. A local journalist, who wishes to remain anonymous, designates them as “Hostages of the regime, because Lukashenko wants to put pressure on the Europeans”. The Belarusian leader, he explains in substance, orchestrated a vast tourist campaign to attract migrants from the Middle East or Africa, and provoke a migration crisis in order to avenge the economic sanctions imposed by the European Union.

Hundreds of attempts

In Grodno – whose airport has just been granted “international” status by the Belarusian authorities – this is a subject that is being discussed discreetly because it is so sensitive. More than a year after major protests across the country against the fraudulently re-elected president for a sixth term in August 2020, the crackdown on critical voices remains fierce. However, here, the community of Polish origin which represents 20% of the population is particularly in the sights of the regime because of its links with Warsaw. The weight of this diaspora can be seen in the large number of Catholic churches in the city, whose very ?old Europe? architecture differs from that of the Belarusian capital which looks like a Soviet window.

The Marseille University Hospital Institute (IHU Méditerranée Infection), headed by the controversial professor Didier Raoult, has “Continued to deliver” tuberculosis treatments “Despite the reservations made by the French drug authority”, confirmed, Wednesday, October 27, the Public Assistance-Hospitals of Marseille (AP-HM).

Based on article 40 of the code of criminal procedure, the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) seized the public prosecutor, considering “That certain studies carried out by the IHU did not comply with the legislation governing research involving human beings”, report Wednesday Mediapart, according to whom the ANSM also « diligent[é] an inspection within the IHU “.

October 22, Mediapart revealed that, “Since at least 2017 and until March 2021, the IHU” had conducted a wild experiment against tuberculosis, causing in several patients, including a minor, serious complications.

According to Mediapart, this experiment used a combination of four drugs whose joint effectiveness had never been evaluated. An experiment carried out despite the refusal of the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM), which must give its approval to research involving human beings, in particular clinical trials of medicinal products.

Other investigations

The AP-HM, which conducted a rapid internal investigation into the “Potential seriousness of the reported facts”, reported on Wednesday that a “Research protocol on this combination of antibiotics had indeed been submitted by the AP-HM”.

A spokesperson told Agence France-Presse that this protocol was filed in August 2019, but was withdrawn a month later “Taking into account the reservations expressed by the ANSM”. Or, “In the absence of an open trial and despite the reservations expressed by the ANSM, the IHU Méditerranée continued to deliver these treatments”, explained the spokesperson for the AP-HM.

The investigation carried out by the body responsible for the IHU also confirms that ” some “ of patients treated for tuberculosis with the implicated combination of antibiotics have been “With kidney complications, at least one of which required surgery”, wrote the AP-HM.

She explains that she will continue her investigations, in conjunction with the competent supervisory authorities, in particular the ANSM. ” The last “Revelations” are a storm in a glass of water “, had tweeted Professor Raoult on Monday.

The IHU and Mr. Raoult met with strong media coverage at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2020, by advocating hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the disease, despite the lack of proven effect.

It is a whole section of mountain that has been leveled for half a century. We had to dig with explosives, deforest. Then day after day, backhoes and trucks transported the granite to the factories below, which turned it into cement. The giant quarry of Asia Cement, the second largest Taiwanese producer, is now only 220 meters above sea level, 600 meters less than in 1973. It overlooks the town of Hsin -cheng, clusters of houses clumped to the road that leads to Taroko Gorge, now a national park, a few hundred meters from the east coast of Taiwan, not far from Hualien. Its 2,000 or so inhabitants are mostly Truku, one of the 16 Austronesian-speaking aboriginal tribes officially recognized in Taiwan.

The Truku are known to have opposed fierce resistance to the Japanese colonizers of Taiwan (1895-1945) who had to cut a road in the rock to transport weapons during the war in 1914 to dislodge them from their grandiose forests. Since the 1990s, the Truku have been engaged in a long-term fight against Asia Cement, which they accuse, along with the environmental activists who support them, of having benefited from privileges for the extension of its mining concession by twenty. years, for the first time in 1997, at the time of industrial development at a rapid pace, then in 2017.

Read also Article reserved for our subscribers ?At the pace where things are going, what will remain of our cultures? “: In Taiwan, the resistance of the aborigines

This renewal was then granted by the Taiwanese Ministry of the Economy for twenty years, until 2037, without an environmental impact study, on the pretext that the quarry had been opened before it was an obligation. It also ignored the Basic Law on Aboriginal Peoples, adopted in 2005, which provides for consultation with the original population. The decision provoked an outcry in environmental defense circles and led to legal action by residents against the cement company. After three years of proceedings, the Supreme Court severely dismissed on appeal, on September 16, Asia Cement: it did not “Given the opportunity to residents to express their opinion on the extension of the concession”, while the Ministry of the Economy failed to take into account “Changes in environmental legislation, the depletion of natural resources and the public interest”.

“Four centuries of pain”

The cement company was finally authorized by the Ministry of the Economy, still under a mining code dating from the 1930s, to continue its operations while it submitted a new request for extension and “Gathered the documents proving that he carried out consultations”. If they salute the battle won in court on September 16, the Truku and the NGOs know that the victory is far from achieved: “It’s a bit like a bully in a class who is kicked out of high school because he brutalizes his classmates, but since he has made a request to stay, well he can continue to stay in class and get drunk!” “, commented on Facebook Tsai Yui-chi, of the Taiwanese NGO Citizen of the Earth Taiwan, very involved in the Asia Cement case. From September 23, a demonstration took place in front of the seat of government in Taipei, to reiterate the expectations of the 2,000 residents in order to clarify the conditions of land cession in the past, to assess the geological state of the mining area. and to propose a relevant environmental reconversion plan for the tribe.

Now, research from the University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with Indiana University, suggests that an FDA-approved therapy for iron-deficiency anemia also holds promise for treating, preventing, and even diagnosing dental decay. The therapeutic, a combination of an iron-oxide nanoparticle-containing solution called ferumoxytol and hydrogen peroxide, was applied to real tooth enamel placed in a denture-like appliance and worn by the study subjects.

The study, published in the journal Nano Letters, found that a twice daily application of ferumoxytol, which activated hydrogen peroxide contained in a follow-up rinse, significantly reduced the buildup of harmful dental plaque and had a targeted effect on the bacteria largely responsible for tooth decay. These types of nanoparticles with enzyme-like properties are sometimes known as ?nanozymes? and are increasingly being explored for their potential in biomedical and environmental applications.

?We found that this approach is both precise and effective,? says Hyun (Michel) Koo, a professor in the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. ?It disrupts biofilms, particularly those formed by Streptococcus mutans, which cause caries, and it also reduced the extent of enamel decay. This is the first study we know of done in a clinical setting that demonstrates the therapeutic value of nanozymes against an infectious disease.?

The work is an extension of a 2018 paper published in Nature Communications, in which Koo and colleagues, including David Cormode of Penn?s Perelman School of Medicine, showed that the iron oxide nanoparticle-hydrogen peroxide treatment could prevent biofilm accumulation and tooth-decay in an experimental model and an animal model.

In the current work, the scientists wanted to take the next logical step, working in humans. In a randomized study, they had 15 participants use a removable, denture-like device with real tooth enamel attached, a method developed and extensively tested by Domenick T. Zero of Indiana University, a co-corresponding author on the current paper.

The study participants applied a sugar-containing solution to the appliance four times a day, mimicking high-sugar meals and snacks consumed in the course of daily life. Participants were asked not to brush the enamel specimens but instead to rinse the appliance twice a day. Participants were divided into three groups, with one using the ferumoxytol then the hydrogen peroxide rinse, one with a solution that provides the inactive ingredients in ferumoxytol, and a third with water alone.

After 14 days, the researchers analyzed the biofilms that accumulated on the enamel specimens. They found the experimental treatment potently reduced the growth of biofilms containing S. mutans and could kill this bacteria with high specificity. Other commensal bacteria normally found in the mouth were not affected by the ferumoxytol-hydrogen peroxide therapy.

The results and safety of the approach were supported by previous work, which has shown that the iron oxide nanoparticles do not bind to the mucosal tissue in the mouth and do not cause cytotoxicity or changes in the oral microbiome in an animal model.

?This treatment doesn?t seem to have harmful, off-target effects,? Koo says.

The reason for this precision is three-fold. The reaction to catalyze hydrogen peroxide only happens in a highly acidic environment, such as what arises when caries-causing bacteria are present and active. The treatment also causes the sticky matrix of carbohydrates to break down, degrading the biofilm and exposing the microbes. And ferumoxytol can specifically bind to receptors on the S. mutans cell membrane, facilitating its killing.

In a final stage of the study, the researchers added a marker that turns blue when exposed to reactive oxygen species, like those generated by the catalysis of hydrogen peroxide by ferumoxytol nanoparticles. And indeed, the team found that the intensity of blue labeling corresponded with acidic biofilms containing S. mutans.

Because of this ?detection? capability, Koo notes that the experimental treatment has the potential to become what is known as a ?theranostic,? that is, a drug that can be used to both diagnose a condition and treat it. ?It can also be used at home,? Koo says. ?You could rinse with it, see how much cavity-causing plaque there is, and then treat with the solution or consult a dentist for follow-up treatment.?

Hyun (Michel) Koo is a professor in the Department of Orthodontics and divisions of Community Oral Health and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.

Koo?s coauthors on the paper were Yuan Liu and Zhi Ren of Penn Dental Medicine, Yue Huang and Min Jun Oh of both Penn Dental Medicine and Penn?s Perelman School of Medicine, David Cormode of the Perelman School of Medicine and Penn?s School of Engineering and Applied Science, Dongyeop Kim of Korea?s Jeonbuk National University, and Anderson T. Hara and Domenick T. Zero of Indiana University. Liu was first author and Zero and Koo were co-corresponding authors on the paper.

“Currently I am unable to score 30 or 40 points,” James Harden admitted this week. Against the Pacers, “the Beard” reassured Brooklyn fans by scoring 29 points (8 assists, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks), including 16 free throws out of 19 attempted.

In the previous five matches, he had only been allowed 15 shots on the line, and complained about being “stigmatized” by the referees, with the new rules aimed at stopping giving shots to shooters who cause adverse faults.

Kevin Durant added 22 points (11 rebounds, 7 assists) and LaMarcus Aldridge scored 21 including 17 in the second half, to rectify the situation after a bad start. The veteran pivot passes the symbolic bar of 20,000 career units.

Still a little laborious, the Nets however returned to a balanced record (3-3), just like Toronto, winner in extremis of Orlando (110-109), thanks in particular to the promising rookie Scottie Barnes, solid 4th choice of the last draft (21 pts at 9/14, 9 rebounds), and like the Lakers.

Usually, when LeBron James goes, LA goes. Spared by his ankle, which forced him to rest for two matches, the “King” was full of envy (26 pts, 8 assists, 3 interceptions) and led the 2020 champion to success against his former Cavaliers.

It is in the money-time, by inflicting a 15-2 in four minutes that the Lakers, long jostled on their floor, made the difference, also relying on the address of Carmelo Anthony (24 pts, 6 / 8 behind the arc) and a serious match from Russell Westbrook (19 pts to 8/13, 5 assists, 6 rebounds).

Jokic mate Doncic

Earlier, Miami disposed of the Hornets to add a fourth victory in five games and share the lead in the East, with New York, Chicago and Washington surprising at the start of the championship.

Seeing the Floridians, finalists in 2020, is not surprising. Relying on a defense still as dissuasive (Charlotte shot 38.9%), they owed their success to their strong men: Jimmy Butler (32 pts at 12/19 on shots, 10 rebounds, 5 assists), Bam Adebayo (26 pts, 19 rebounds) and Tyler Herro (26 pts at 9/13, 6 assists).

“The basketball IQ of this team is very high. We have experienced and knowledgeable guys who can understand and handle situations in real time. It matters in this league,” said coach Erik Spoelstra.

In Denver, the Nuggets made short work of the Mavericks (106-75) and the reigning MVP Nikola Jokic, well recovered from the knee blow received Tuesday against Utah, did not have to force his talent offensively ( 11 pts, 16 rebounds, 8 assists) to contribute. As for Luka Doncic, he did not force his own to remedy it (16 pts, 5/18 on shots).

The Nuggets (3-2) come back up to Dallas, just like Portland, who fell from the Clippers (111-92) with a good harvest at three points (19/41) including five for Damian Lillard (25 pts). LA side, Paul George shone (42 pts, 8 rebounds) but too alone to prevent this 4th setback in five matches.

A meager record shared by New Orleans, still deprived of Zion Williamson (foot) and beaten by Sacramento (113-109).

Sofia Tornambene – Interview

Let’s start immediately from the present, your EP Dance Mania Stereo Love is out, Sofia can you present it to our readers of AllMusicItalia?

DANCE MANIA Stereo Love it’s a really special project for me, not only because it’s my first EP, but also because it allowed me to dig deeper into myself. I loved every moment of writing the record, we spent unforgettable moments and I hope it can accompany those who listen to it by letting themselves be overwhelmed by the music.

The new album marks an artistic maturation, a change of sonority that leaves behind more acoustic pieces to a great production of Maestro who is also co-author of the songs. Dance Mania Stereo Love is a pop dance album in which in addition to the sound there is also a particular care for the lyrics, can you deepen this aspect?

Well this album marks a new chapter in my journey, I would just say that I have grown up. I think that music is the mirror of our soul and that it too has changed with me. Maestro played a fundamental role, we were able to immediately get in tune with the lyrics as well as the sound. I don’t like to explain the meaning of my songs, I prefer to leave this margin of freedom to those who listen to them, so that they can give vent to their imagination and let themselves be carried away by emotions.

The song “Solo”, released last year seems to me to be the link between the two styles, the transition from acoustic songs to pop dance. Correct?

Let’s say yes, Solo it was the first song I wrote together with Maestro and that started the realization of the EP.

The first excerpt from the EP is “The Impossible” which has a text focused on an inner path that matures and finds its turning point.
“How beautiful is the world / Things I will never know / You know loneliness / It is what closes in me / even if I never really had you / I see you / I feel you behind everything” until you get there to “How beautiful is the world / No it is not possible to race against time to return to you and tell you how beautiful the world is / Follows the impossible / It is only a word made to bring me to you / And to tell you that I am there still behind everything “
It is a beautiful message that comes from you, what prompted you to write it?

The idea of The impossible came to life during quarantine.
It was a flash inspiration, enclosed in 2 days of study with Maestro ed Eiemgei. I was going through a difficult moment, you know, when everything seemed to collapse on me the song was like a mantra, I hope it can be also for those who listen to it.

The musical part is very present in the songs and at times it seems, at first listening, to dominate the text but it is not so, it is at the service of it. The texts are very accurate and must be listened to well. Are they born first from the textual or musical part? Or do you compose them together?

As far as writing is concerned, it is usually natural for me to start from the musical part, usually it is the melody that comes first. It must be something that stays in my head and already from that sound a word can often be formed and so on. Often they are born together but not necessarily, sometimes even just some keywords are enough to unleash an entire concept even before having started playing.

Personally, the whole EP intrigued me, you catalyzed me in listening. Besides ?The Impossible? I was struck by ?Well so?, can you tell us how these songs are born?

They are both my favorite EP songs. I can’t tell you how or why they are born, often there is no real story behind each song, sometimes it was enough just to make a round of chords or hum a melody to then give life to the songs.

Let’s take a little step back, what’s Kimono about on this album?

The soul.

Sanremo Young e X-Factor

In your television experience you distinguished yourself in Sanremo Young by reaching the final and winning X-Factor. Your paths have been very interesting and you have had the opportunity to be able to perform several times on TV in prime time, do you think this can help emerging artists to reach the general public?

Well surely they have all been experiences that have shaped me both from a human and musical point of view and that have opened up many possibilities for me so I think they are excellent showcases for emerging artists.

Are you a young artist, would you recommend these paths to another young person who wants to approach the world of music?

Yes, obviously it depends on the path the artist wants to follow and you have to be careful to always keep your identity.

The two experiences (Sanremo Young and X-Factor) are very different from each other and I think they left you with different memories and teachings. Can you tell us about them?

Both were wonderful experiences, they gave me the opportunity to meet great artists.
Sanremo Young made me get on one of the most magical stages, that of the Ariston, while at X Factor I was able to carry on my music.
I would never be able to fully tell the things that have happened in these years and all the emotions I have experienced.

Sofia Tornambene: Dreams and projects

Let’s look ahead and try to dream: what would you like to write about and who would you like to collaborate or duet with?

In writing I have always been a bit nostalgic, I love to tell about love, but I would also like to be able to get some important messages.
As for who I would like to collaborate with I would tell you 070 shake, is a very strong emerging artist.

We close by looking to the future, can you tell us something about your projects?

I would certainly like to bring DANCE MANIA: Stereo Love live, go back to singing on stage.
I am already writing new music so I will work on a new project and then we will see where the music takes me.

We want to say thanks to the writer of this article for this awesome material

Laotians do not want a giant Chinese Buddha: the Chinese real estate group Wanfeng Real Estate, of Shanghai, which since 2012 has been building a 3.65 square kilometer special economic zone in Vientiane, in the That Luang swamp region, in the east of the Laotian capital, is under fire from critics. In question, the project to erect a giant statue of Buddha, intended to become the central attraction of an aquatic theme park for tourists – mainly Chinese.

The project is not new. But its implementation seems imminent, since the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Kikeo Khaykhamphithoun, visited the promoter’s premises at the end of August to learn about it. That the communist leader – Laos has been led since 1975 by the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party – welcomed, according to the official Laotian press, that this “Gigantic representation of Buddha can give an impetus to Buddhism in the era of globalization, while encouraging the economic development of the SEZ”, still happening. But that he was introduced a replica of the future statue, in the form of a standing Buddha, in the typical style of the Mahayana school known as the “great vehicle”, the majority in China and North-East Asia, causes a shock: in Laos, where predominates, as in Thailand and in Burma, the Theravada school known as the ?small vehicle?, the Awakened one – the meaning of ?Buddha? in Sanskrit – is most often represented in a sitting position of meditation.

Critics immediately rocketed on social networks. “They should build a Laotian Buddha, or if they want to build it as a symbol of cooperation between the two countries, then they build two Buddha statues – one Chinese and one Laotian side by side., a Vientiane resident told Radio Free Asia’s Laotian service. If they are content to build only that of China, Laos will lose face ».

“Symbol of sovereignty”

For Adisorn Semyaem, director of the Mekong Studies Center at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, quoted by Nikkei Asia magazine, “It would be unacceptable for Laotians for a large statue to be built in the That Luang Swamp Special Economic Zone to attract tourism, not far from the Pha That Luang stupa, the symbol of Laotian sovereignty.”

In reality, the distinction between the two schools of Buddhism is far from being so clear: there are many statues of seated Buddhas in China. And at least one dispatch from the Laotian press agency quoted, in August 2020, that is to say a year earlier, a Chinese official evoking a “Statue in a seated position” of a hundred meters for the Chinese economic zone. The question, according to connoisseurs, has more to do with Laotian nationalism, faced with a China which is multiplying infrastructure projects in this small country of 7.5 million inhabitants with which it shares a border.

Manufacturers and distributors will have to respect new rules of the game in their commercial negotiations which are beginning. The legislative text setting the framework for relations within the agrifood sector was definitively adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 14. The stake of this bill of the deputy La République en Marche Grégory Besson-Moreau, called “EGalim 2”, is eminently political, with entry into force just before the presidential election of 2022. It must materialize the commitment made by Emmanuel Macron to ensure better remuneration for farmers. This promise was already at the heart of the EGalim law passed in 2018, but which did not give the expected results.

?There are real subjects of satisfaction in the text. The compromise found suits us “, says Richard Panquiault, Director General of the Institute for the Liaison of Consumer Businesses, the armed wing of large groups. Indeed, one of the crucial points of the discussions was none other than ?transparency?. In fact, the EGalim 2 law imposes written and multi-year contracts between the producer and his first buyer. This cost of agricultural raw materials is then protected within the framework of negotiations between the manufacturer and the distributor.

But the initial idea was to ask the manufacturer to present the details of the costs of agricultural raw materials entering into the composition of the products to justify its prices. It was hardly to the taste of companies, which argued about business secrecy.

Supervised logistics penalties

Finally, the legislative text leaves three options to the industrialist, either the indication of the prices of each agricultural raw material, or the indication of the aggregate price of all the raw materials, or the use of a trusted third party to certify the tariff. This is the same for all distributors.

In addition, large-scale distribution must justify the cost of each of the services that it will ask the manufacturer (participation in the catalog, promotion, shelf space, etc.). The logistical penalties suffered by companies in the event of delay or failure to deliver are themselves regulated. As well as negotiations for private label products.

Finally, companies have tariff revision clauses in the event of fluctuations in agricultural prices, but also in energy, transport or packaging prices. In the event of a dispute, a commercial dispute resolution committee will be set up to rule. “With EGalim 1, the money from the 10% increase in the resale threshold at a loss [c?est-à-dire la limite de prix au-dessous de laquelle un distributeur ne peut revendre un produit] was a check given to distributors. EGalim 2 is a rebalancing in favor of the industry », Says Mr. Panquiault.

Fountain pens have been used for years. You may not see them appear as much as a ballpoint pen, but the writing comfort is much better according to the users. There is a good chance that you first came into contact with a fountain pen in education. Years later you decide to look for this refined pen again. Very understandable, because this pen is very popular for personal use as well as for a unique gift. We list all the important things!

Pens: which types can you choose from?

There are a number of different types of pens. Think of a fountain pen, a ballpoint pen and a rollerball pen. Chances are that you use a ballpoint the most at home, at work or at school. Oil-based ink comes out of the ball in the tip of the pen, so the ink doesn’t smudge.

A fountain pen contains water-based ink. This allows you to write more fluently than with a ballpoint pen. In addition, this pen has a more classic or more luxurious look, which means that the pen is often used on special occasions. A rollerball pen combines the two pens: it works like a ballpoint, but writes like a fountain pen.

What is a fountain pen?

A fountain pen is a pen where you write with liquid ink. As a writer you can fill these with ink yourself by means of an inkwell or ink cartridges. The fountain pen is different from a ballpoint pen, because you cannot refill the ink yourself with this second type. The big advantage is that you can use a fountain pen for much longer, and you don’t have to throw the pen away when the ink runs out. You simply refill the ink, and then you can put words on the paper again.

How does a fountain pen work?

You are probably used to writing with a ballpoint pen, but a fountain pen writes better and feels better in the hand. The writing instrument has few parts and consists of two parts that can be screwed or clicked together: the body and the cap.

When you take the cap off, you will see a metal plate that can be bent. This will be the nib of the pin and is fixed to a cylinder. That cylinder comes out of a holder, and behind it is a tube. It is precisely that tube that is important, because it leads to the ink reservoir in the holder.

When the nib pen was invented, people called it a fountain pen because you no longer had to dip into an inkwell. It just came out as if there was a fountain of ink as a source in the pen. Hence the English term ‘fountain pen? is.

How do you write with a fountain pen?

If you are used to writing with a ballpoint pen, you will have to get used to having a fountain pen in your hands. Remove the cap first, then grasp the pen with the hand you use to write. You hold the pen between your thumb and index finger, with the pen itself resting against the middle finger. Place your other fingers on the paper so that you cannot slip while writing.

You then place the tip on the paper at a 45-degree angle. This angle is so important because the fountain pen has a pointed tip as opposed to a rounded tip on a ballpoint pen. You need to control the pen with your hand to stay in the correct position. To do this, move your arm and shoulder. Keep your fingers and wrist stiff. You don’t need to use a lot of force to get ink out of the fountain pen. Therefore, carefully place the tip on the paper and practice writing.

Refilling ink from a fountain pen: what should I do?

Refilling a fountain pen can be done in three different ways. This depends on the type of pen you have: a loose-fill pen, converter fountain pens, or piston fountain pens. Below we describe the differences and how you can refill the ink.

Fountain pen with loose refills

This first loose-fill pen is the most popular and also the easiest to fill. You throw away the loose refill when it is empty, and you exchange it with a new one by opening the pen.

Converter Fountain Pens

Converter fountain pens, on the other hand, are refillable with ink, so you don’t have to throw away a refill every time. For this, as the name suggests, you use a so-called converter.

Piston fountain pens

The piston fountain pen is very similar to the converter fountain pen. The biggest difference is that you don’t need a converter to refill the ink. A piston fountain pen has its own built-in filling system, making it even easier to refill your pen with ink.

How did the fountain pen originate?

About 4,000 BC, during excavations from Egyptian tombs, objects very similar to fountain pens were found. Very little is known about the functioning of these objects. The Romans used objects whose function was clear. The pens they used were made of bamboo with a sharp point. The inside was made rough, so that the ink slowly slid down through the channels of the bamboo.

The more famous predecessor of the modern fountain pen is the quill pen. Fun fact: you could only grab one of the first five feathers of a goose wing. In addition, right-handers had to take a feather from the left wing and vice versa. It was not until around 1850 that a mechanic built a fountain pen that closely resembles today’s pen. And even though the world is digitizing more and more, the fountain pen is still extremely popular!

Borrowing a fountain pen: to do or not to?

It used to be that a fountain pen went to your hand. A good reason not to lend the pen and keep it all to yourself. With the advent of the ballpoint pen, we are used to pressing harder on the pen to be able to write. As a result, the fountain pen has been developed over the years, and the nib has been made stronger.

The advantage is that the point breaks off much less quickly, but the disadvantage is that the point is no longer adjusted to your hand. You will therefore really have to come up with something else to avoid having to borrow your fountain pen. The ‘excuse’ that the point will change to another hand is a fable these days.
